The name is J.R. Maffie. I have lived in southern California my whole life and I am now enjoying the culture shock that is Eugene, Oregon. This is my third year at the U of O and despite the constant complaining about the winter weather, I have grown to love Eugene. I have been blessed with the opportunity to play on one of the elite football programs in America and I am currently enjoying bragging to my best friends who play at Stanford and UCLA about our third straight pac-12 title. I have learned many invaluable things by being a part of this team that I will treasure and apply these lessons to all parts of my life including my career. I am an advertising major through the school of journalism and I absolutely love it. I was fortunate enough to have my “aha!” moment this last term, and now more than ever I know that this is the industry I was born to be in. I want to do great things, create great work and change lives for the better. I believe in doing good in every aspect of life whether or not you’ll get rewarded for it. I believe in thinking creatively and never settling for second best. I believe in creating great memories and learning from your mistakes. I believe that our work will impact the lives of many. I am a product of my raising and I hold onto my morals and values very strongly. I plan on never forgetting where I came from. I’m extremely excited to see what the future has in store for me, and all of us at Advertising Week.
